Biog


Ashley has been a freelance photographer specializing in dance and theatre for the past 20 years and is highly regarded in the local arts community. He has collaborated with many major arts organizations including the West Australian Ballet, Buzz Dance Theatre, Artrage Festival, Steps Youth Dance Company, DeckChair Theatre, Barking Gecko Theatre, co. loaded, STRUT dance, Ausdance, Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, Youth Arts, Southern Edge Arts, LINK Dance, Awesome Children’s Festival and with numerous independent choreographers and artists.

His images were used on the 2002 Perth International Arts Festival Poster and he continues to produce images for the festival. He is represented in the Fuji ACMP National Collection who recognizes the best in Australian photographers and is represented in the Dance Collection of the National Library.

Along with his commercial work, Ashley pursues his own personal work. He has exhibited extensively, including exhibiting in the Australian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. He was principle photographer for the best-selling book Girlosophy II in 2002 edited by Anthea Paul, and in 2003 Ashley received an ArtsWA grant to produce a book on youth and dance. Ashley’s photographic documentation of Antony Gormley’s Inside Australia project has been published by Thames & Hudson in the UK

Ashley’s images are published regularly in newspapers and magazines, including The Australian, The West Australian, Dance West Magazine and Dance Australia Magazine.

Ashley created the visuals for the The Drover’s Wives for the Perth International Arts Festival for 2006 and was awarded for 'Dance Film/ Technology within Dance' at the Ausdance WA Dance Awards 2006. He has currently collaborated with two other artists Paula Hart and Sohan Hayes on large works that was installed in the NewMetro Leda Train station in late 2006.
